STAA fully recognizes the importance of environmental conservation in ensuring the sustainability of its operational activities. Accordingly, the Company ensures that all operations implement and continuously develop sustainable and environmentally responsible palm oil plantation practices.
Plantation management is carried out with a strong commitment to environmental protection and stewardship. In this regard, the Company is committed to:
The Company also collaborates with independent consultants to develop HCV Area documentation for all business units. Based on the results of these studies, STAA subsequently prepares management and monitoring plans for HCV Areas.
In addition, STAA maintains biodiversity conservation within its operational units through the use of camera traps to monitor wildlife presence in and around the Company’s operational areas.
Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions MitigationSTAA implements good processing practices at its palm oil mills to reduce carbon emissions. These efforts include the utilization of waste and renewable energy sources, the application of fertilizers at appropriate dosages and timing, and the implementation of integrated pest management practices.
Biogas Power PlantAs part of its commitment to reducing emissions and improving energy efficiency, STAA has developed a biogas power plant to meet the electricity needs of the Kernel Crushing Plant and domestic operations of PT Karya Serasi Jaya Abadi (KSJA). This biogas power plant reduces GHG emissions by capturing methane generated from Palm Oil Mill Effluent (POME) and converting it into reusable electrical energy.
Solar Energy UtilizationSTAA has also implemented the use of solar panel systems at PT Karya Serasi Jaya Abadi (KSJA) as part of its energy efficiency and conservation initiatives. Through the use of solar energy, STAA has reduced electricity consumption by up to 30%, with a total installed capacity of 600 kWp.
Fire Prevention and ManagementThe Company remains consistent and committed to land and plantation fire prevention and management by ensuring the availability of adequate fire management facilities and infrastructure in accordance with government regulations (Minister of Agriculture Regulation No. 5/2018). Each operational unit is equipped with fire watchtowers, firefighting equipment, and water reservoirs to ensure sufficient water supply during the dry season.
STAA has also established a trained Fire Emergency Response Team, which receives regular guidance and training from Manggala Agni. This team conducts routine drills and simulations at each operational site. In addition, all operational units carry out regular patrols to identify fire-prone areas, particularly during the dry season. STAA has further implemented an early warning system capable of detecting hotspots both within and around its concession areas.
