In accordance with STAA's sustainability policy in carrying out social responsibility towards the surrounding community, the company implements social management through several things:
Taking a Proactive Approach to the Community
STAA respects the rights of indigenous peoples and surrounding communities by ensuring that no development or land acquisition will be carried out on or around their lands in violation of their rights based on traditional and customary practices.
The Company will obtain consent without the use of violence or coercion, obtained before the close of negotiations and the start of operations and carried out openly from all these communities before any form of construction and development takes place. Appropriate consultation and engagement will be undertaken with local communities to identify their expectations, requirements and insights with a view to obtaining free, free consent without any coercion.
Carrying out a comprehensive social review and assessment
STAA carries out social and environmental impact assessments in its operational activities. This assessment was carried out to determine community perceptions, issues that could potentially arise on plantations and analyze the relationship between STAA and stakeholders. This activity is carried out as part of social protection efforts. Apart from that, this assessment is also used by the company as a basis for preparing corporate social responsibility programs for the community around the company. It is hoped that the programs that will be provided will be effective and right on target for the community.
Carrying out Community Empowerment
STAA also implements Social and Environmental Responsibility, where the company seeks to empower communities around its operational areas, and involves them in various welfare improvement programs.
STAA's concern for the surrounding community is carried out through various programs such as education and training programs for the community, providing scholarships, improving health, social assistance for underprivileged communities, compensation for orphans, and assistance for religious activities. STAA also provides infrastructure assistance in the form of repairs to school buildings, mosques, churches, repairs to roads and bridges for community access.
